On the Terry Lift, follow the bleed procedure, insert the bleed peg and connect the bleed valve and pipes and run the pump with one bleed nipple open and the tube into a clear bottle (with some clean fluid in) the ram will lift the Lift Car and stop against the bleed peg forcing fluid out into the bottle, at the same time expelling air with it. Set up the top trap switches and check the operation of all safety devices, all top safe edges, under pan safety switches in both directions and door interlock switches. The lift should be weight tested at its rated weight plus 10% and the pressure relief valve adjusted as required. The journey time should also be noted. As part of the Hand Over and Demonstration describe all safety features of the lift, the emergency procedure and the location of the Dump Valve and when to utilise it and cautions associated with its use. The Lifestyle Lift has a pressure sensitive bottom panel, which we call the underpan. When activated it will gently stop the lift if an obstruction is detected.
For example, if a pet or child was playing underneath the lift when it was descending, the micro-switches above the underpan would activate, immediately stopping the lift. The “pinch-point” allows approximately 20 millimetres of movement, preventing even the slightest pinching from happening. This allows the obstruction to be removed without having to send the lift back up. Do I need to get planning permission to get a Lifestyle Lift installed? No, however, Building Control approval is required as you are altering the structural integrity of your floor when you have an aperture cut in the floor for your lift. What British or European standards does a through floor home lift need to comply with? There isn’t a current standard that a full height cabin type through floor home lift can comply with.
However, the closest standard that can be referred to is BS5900:2012. This is the rigorous standard that is in place for unenclosed through floor lifts such as the Harmony range of lifts that we manufacture. This legislation is very generic and a manufacturer can self-certify against to a lift travel of up to 3 metres. We would always recommend that ‘Independent Notified Body Approval’ is proven. Are there any special requirements if my lift travel is above 3 metres? It is a legal requirement under ‘The Supply of the Machinery Regulations’ that if a manufacturer is looking to install a through floor lift above 3 metres, then the product must have been assessed and approved by an Independent Notified Body.
Once the manufacturer’s lift is approved following a rigorous testing and assessment process, they will receive a certificate proving compliance against the Directive. It is a legal requirement to have this certification. Therefore, please verify this important detail by asking for evidence of ‘Notified Body’ approval, before placing your business with a supplier.
